About
'To seek to capture the essence in art'
My inspiration comes from the elements of nature: the spectrum of colour, tones and shadows complementing each other, continuously changing - affecting my reaction – your reaction. The continually changing light and atmospheric conditions are savoured for its own uniqueness. The very substance of the air affects us deeply and the interaction between the elements and our essence can bring harmony to the very centre of our being. Paint on canvas can be a starting point for a journey that can take you beyond the edges of your known boundaries and out into infinity.
I started painting when I moved to Sussex from London 30 years ago, attending local art classes with a very imaginative teacher. My connection to my surroundings was immediate and deep. The joy of living in one of the most beautiful villages in England opened up a passion for wide open spaces, woodland and water. Walks on the downs or by the sea, observing the continual change of light and colour would feed the way I try to capture the essence of a place, and how it affects me. Different places and feelings will guide how this image is portrayed, what materials are used and how it is set down, and, sometimes allowing the paint freedom to contribute to the journey. My painting will combine many aspects which will leave you, the viewer, to have your own experience, your own adventure through the landscape, the paint and the colour.
